"Riding with volunteers encourages me to embrace riding to the fullest" - Gearing Up rider

Volunteers are incredibly important to the Gearing Up mission. We have two formalized roles for volunteers: Ride Volunteers, and Community Volunteers

Ride Volunteers ride with our groups during weekly programming at each community partner program, with locations in West Philadelphia, Mount Airy, and Center City.  Ride Volunteers help riders experience a sense of community, social connectivity, and help keep everyone safe.

If you own a bicycle and a helmet, feel comfortable riding through Philadelphia, and can commit to weekly bike rides, we'd love to have you as a Ride Volunteer. Ride Leaders play a pivotal role in our program, assisting staff Ride Leaders with readying the group for the ride, sweeping rides, and coaching new riders. The time commitment is approximately a 1.5-2 hour commitment per week.

Community Volunteers assist our administrative staff with a variety of tasks, in effect, extending our reach: staffing events, coordinating special rides, assisting with office work, and working on community outreach. This is a 2-4 hour commitment every other month.

Volunteers must be committed to the mission of Gearing Up, be open to trauma informed approaches to service, be able to make a time commitment to the organization, and attend an initial 1-3 hour training.

Upcoming trainings are scheduled for:

Friday, July 7
8:30-11:30am, 2401 Walnut St.
